Stop

And see

There is something beyond

Beyond the buzzing phones and humming traffic

Beyond the concrete contours and the ceiling of the man-made skyline

There is a life beyond that calls us

Greater than the countryside’s respite

Richer than the momentary pause of a desperately awaited holiday

Better than the empty opiate of more and more stuff

There is more

More than the sum of the soulless parts that are put before us

More than the wearying reality behind the veneer of modern progress

Quietly but surely our lifeblood calls to us

There is something beyond

We can push it aside but the quiet call becomes a roar

You were made for more than mere existence

More than running up the down escalator

The call is the call of God

The call is home

Into the arms of the one that made us

A life lived in his embrace and under his shadow

His heart pounds for connection

He yearns to pour his boundless, generous creativity into us

He stands ready to step in

His antidote of grace for our control freakery

His healing words in our torment

His promise that this is not all there is

And we are not alone

We are known

And loved
